The Wisdom of Holding On

By Becki Balok

There are times when we simply must let go. Sometimes we must hold on. Wisdom is knowing the difference.

If letting go implies 'letting' God, then holding on implies 'waiting' for God. Sometimes our dreams and desires are out of synch with God. Sometimes we are roaring down a particular course, and perhaps, God has not yet caught up with us.

When what we want for our lives, harms no one, brings more good into our lives and the lives of others, God wants it for us. But is it possible, that even though God wants it for us, he doesn't want it for us right now?

Is it possible that we are not quite ready to handle the cosmic consequences of our hopes right this second?

Is it possible that we have reached a point, where we must hold on, not let go?

Holding On means staying the course.

Holding On means not giving up just because your dreams are not unfolding the way you thought they would.

Holding On means waiting.

Holding On means slowing down.

Holding On means resting.

Holding On is trusting.

Holding On is being open to the next step, even if it feels like you are going backwards.

Holding On is the ability to keep on moving your dreams forward, even when the outer signs say it is time to stop.

Holding On is seeing through rejection.

Holding On is keeping focused even though distractions abound.

Holding On builds a bridge to your dreams.

Holding On is the mortar to the building blocks of your dreams.

There are times we simply must let go, there are things we must let go of. But, when it comes to our hopes and dreams, wisdom is Holding On -- it's a bumpy ride.
